The Company was founded in Columbus in 1947 as a maker of detachable shoulder pads for women’s clothing. The Company’s name was derived from the first names of its founders' children: Richard, Gordon and Barry (RG Barry).

RG Barry Brands is a wholly-owned affiliate of Mill Road Capital, a Greenwich, CT.-based private equity firm.
How did the Company enter the accessory business?
After reading about the release of foam rubber to industry following World War II, Company co-founder Florence Zacks Melton felt the new material might make the shoulder pads her young company produced more durable; but when she obtained a foam rubber sample, she was struck by the idea of walking on it. Soon after, she created Angel Treads®, the world's first foam-soled, soft washable slipper. Foam rubber continues to cushion many of the millions of pairs of accessory footwear we develop and sell each year.

What are your market shares?
Based upon our own research and various industry sources, we estimate our share of the U.S. slipper market at approximately 30%. Slippers account for only about 2-to-3 percent of the $30 billion-plus (at retail) accessories business.
Foot Petals and baggallini own very small shares of their respective accessory categories. Each, by virtue of its size, offers RG Barry significant growth opportunities. baggallini is part of the very broad multi-billion handbag business; and Foot Petals competes in the $1 billion (at retail) comfort insert category.
